Church
(1757-1834) was commissioned to design churches and manses in communities which had no church buildings, the total cost not to exceed £1500 on any site. He developed a church of T-shaped plan and two manse designs a single-storey and a two-storey, adaptable to site and ground conditions, and to brick or stone construction, at £750 each. They were built throughout the Scottish highlands and islands. Telford's other works include building roads, designing and/or building canals, an aqueduct, other bridges, other churches, and dockside and harbour works, and renovation of some major buildings.
