Why do male and female bodies tend to have different amounts of water?

Men tend to have higher levels of fat and need more water because of this. The European Food Safety Authority recommends 2.5 litres drinking water per day for men whereas women only need 2 litres. Of this, they suggest that 70-80% of the daily water intake should come from drinks, and the remaining 20-30% should come from food.
