The first Indian woman IPS officer was Kiran Bedi.

About Kiran Bedi
Kiran Bedi, an Indian social activist, was born on 9th of June in 1949 in Amritsar, Punjab, India to the Prakash Peshawaria and Prem Peshawaria. She has completed her graduation (B.A.) in the year 1968 from the Government College for Women, Amritsar and Master’s degree (Political Science) in 1970 from Punjab University, Chandigarh. She also did Bachelor of Laws degree from University of Delhi in 1988 and Ph.D. (Social Sciences) from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 1993. She got married to the Brij Bedi.

How Kiran Bedi became the First Woman IPS Officer of India

She has started her career as a Political Science Lecturer in the year 1970 at the Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar. She joined the Indian police service in the year 1972 as a first Indian woman IPS officer. Before getting retired from the post of IPS officer, she hold the office as a Director General at Bureau of Police Research and Development in 2007. She served as an Inspector General of Prisons in the Tihar Jail, Delhi from 1993 to 1995.

Achievements of Kiran Bedi as a First Woman IPS Officer of India

She became a first Indian woman IPS officer in 1972.
She has organized and host the popular TV series name “Aap Ki Kachehri” to solve the real-life disputes of the common people.
She became the founder of the two Indian NGOs named “the Navjyoti India Foundation” and “the India Vision Foundation for prison reformation, drug abuse prevention and child welfare” in 1994.
She has been honored with the Ramon Magsaysay award in the year 1994 for her best and dedicated Government service.
She has been titled as the “Crane Bedi” for pulling the car of Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, during parking violation during the US tour of PM.
She has been honored with the honorary degree of “Doctor of Law” for her big contribution to the prison reforms and policing.
