Hydra can reproduce either asexually by budding or sexually, as hermaphrodites, by developing ovaries or testes which release free floating gametes to fertilise other individuals. When a Hydra is injured or cut in pieces, it will regenerate. Halves will bud and form two complete new Hydra; any smaller pieces of tissue can also eventually regenerate completely.
