A football game
The teams playing were Ghana's two most successful teams and the arena was full. People disagreed with the referee's decision about two late goals, threw plastic seats and bottles onto the pitch, were fired on by police with tear gas, and then stampeded as they tried to escape. Some gates had been locked. It is seen as the worst stadium disaster in Africa.
