Indian Space Research Organisation (IRSO) has been awarded the prestigious Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2014. The Gandhi Peace Prize for social, economic and political transformation through non-violence was instituted in the year 1995. The award comprises an amount of Rupees One crore and a citation. ISRO was set up in 1969 and has its head quarters in Bangalore. By launching several satellites it has contributed to the nation’s development through satellite based education, health care and connectivity to community activities for sustainable economic development.
